People:Willhands and myself
Duration:last hour of the drop and 3 hours of the rise
Tide: Low @ 10pm
Weather: Calm, mild bright night, small rolling surf
Bait: Peeler, razor, rag, mack
Rigs: 4/0 pulley, flappers 1, 2/0
Results: Flounder, coalie, bass, dogfish
Report: After a few tough sessions with little to show, improved conditions were a welcome sight, we decided to hit the beach. Stopped in East Cork Bait and Tackle en route, where we picked up some tasty peelers!! Thanks Paul. Got to the beach, small rolling surf and a few fellow anglers already set up and fishing. 20 minutes later we had our lines in the water, it wasn't long until a chunky little flounder was reeled in from the surf, pleasant sight as we haven't seen one for a while!! Taken on rag. We had a few small coalies just before low tide and as it reached low tide, everything went slack, no harm, it was a nice chance to relax and enjoy the nights fishing, the last few sessions were gale blown, freezing and constant work! The first hour of the rise was quiet until the famous dogfish appeared, action all the same. It took a while for the tide to start pushing, about 1am cast out a peeler on a 4/0 pennel pulley, within 5mins the rod nodded and stopped, tightened the slack and left the rod back down, and waited, on the second nod started to reel in and was greeted by a nice bar of silver from the surf, first bass of the year, around 3.5lbs. An enjoyable nights fishing.
