Report:Newcastle Tuesday - Had to drop and collect my son to wicklow mountain national park in laragh for his ty work experience, so decided to break the monotony and head out for a couple of well deserved sessions

. Haven't got out for a few months so this was my big chance. Decided on Newcastle for the 1st one, a beach i haven't fished for more years than i care to remember and after tuesday a beach i dont wont to remember

. Arrived just after low water with some strong south westerlies but I was determined to give it a go. 1st hour the rod was bouncing around, but from the wind not the bites but the wind soon calmed down and it became quite pleasant. To cut a long story short no bites, no crabs no fish. In 6 six hours only twice did I reel in and find the bait had been stripped from the hooks

. The only fish I saw that day was the
tuna I had for lunch. Highlight of the day was the Terns flying up and down the beach.
Kilcoole Thursday - Decided to dig some fresh lug on wednesday morn and collect some fresh mussel, so off i went on thurs morning a little underwhelmed after tues session. Low water was 11.30 approx
with a blustery westerly wind. Got the 1st cast in about 10 and thought I saw a knock on the rod but wasn't sure the way the wind was bouncing the rod around, left it a few more minutes and reeled a a dab about 20cm

Happy Days its a fish. 2nd cast same story, rods bouncing around,
reel in and lo and behold a nice little flounder of 28 cm

2 casts 2 fish. went quiet after that but the bait was stripped on nearly every cast which was in contrast to what happened in Newcastle.
Managed to pick up another dab of 25cm along with a crab. The dab took the mussel and the crab took the lug which had slipped up the snood. All in all an enjoyable day here's to better days ahead.
