People: me and jhcabs
Duration: 18.00 - 02.00
Tide: high at 20.30
Weather: windy, some rain
Bait: lug, rag, peeler, mac
Rigs: flappers, pulleys
Results: flounder
Report: jh started out on a south facing beach that was fishable at 17.00, by the time i got there the sea was pushing him up onto the dunes so we figuered it was time to move - the weed had also started to appear
we then moved to a sheltered beach on the estuary, no weed but still windy, another angler to the south of us
nothing happening for an hour
at the fall of darkness jh gets a small flounder
hunger kicks in and he heads off to the chipper (after the first one closed at 9 - on a saturday night!!!)
i get a flounder 28cm then - eat the chips and jh pulls in another small one
probably should have stayed where we were but had a feeling there were only flounder to be had and wanted a few species so headed to the pier
got to the pier and sure enough there were 2 lads on the end of it
up the coast to another pier - but only lasted 30mins - was way more exposed than we had thought
didnt know where the lead was going in the cast - so back in the car - change number 3!
down to an west facing beach and we didnt get the rods out - the tide had gone well out with big spaces between the breakers and the wind was a factor this far out - would have needed big casts to be in water - so change number 4
to an east facing beach i never fished before - good deep slope on it - thought we would have water to fish into but also plenty of weed and rough ground in places
gave it a good hour and the sleep was calling - was taking 20mins to get tangles out of rigs, weed off and casting again
what didnt help was my reel packing it in - a new one for me - the spool not moving up and down so the line all bulking up in one spot
that was it for me - time to go
would i have been happy to take a few more flounder and make last orders - you bet yea!
but at least i got to see a new beach - must try it on HW

I actually drove back up to Gorey for 5am and fished up until after sunrise. found a beach sheltered from the wind, but there was no beach from the swell so fished from the path leading down. managed another flounder but thats about it.
i still enjoyed it all and it was a very usefu recci now that i'm keeping a detailed log.
Roll on Kerry for this weekend and going to try Dollymount tonight to finish off the left over bait

I'm wrecked just reading that! Great effort, let's hope things get a bit more consistent soon.

Was getting blown out of it, tide miles out, forgot waders. Didn't even set up. Beer and movie sounds better
