Report:Just a quick report. Did a bit of business on the site here tacklewise so while I was in the area I took the opportunity to use up my leftover bait from Saturday nights session in Ennereilly (No relation

). Had a fillet of mack and about 15 rag left. No one in the Harbour so set up in my usual spot and cast out 2 rods, one out 40 yds or so with mack, and I saved the rag for the 1 hook mini rig in close among the rocks

. Nothing happened for the first 2 hours until it got a bit dark, except for when I thought I heard the James Bond theme tune and looked up

Not sure if it was him but he was doing a good impression as he headed for Killiney

Apart from a one legged seabird trying to rob my bait , and a little kid who grabbed my rod off the wall as he passed by

, it was quiet. I took the opportunity to shave some of the flesh off the fillet of mack. Unfortunately I had the brainwave of doing this while leaning over the wall and between my clumsiness and my cold fingers the inevitable happened and the fillet slipped out of my grasp and fell in slow motion into the sea below

All was not lost though, as I had previously cut up lots of small slivers for the mini rig

,,,,,but there would be no large mack baits heading seawards from this point of the evening

. I cast out a 2 hook mini rig baited with rag, tipped with mack (sliver

) , a few yards out and left it settle. I gave up on the second rod at this stage due to combination of getting snagged and running low on bait

. After a few mins I decided to reel in and would you credit it , there was a 27cm Henstooth / Eastcoast codling on the end. I didnt see the bite , and I was watching all the time

.

He made my night, and was followed by a couple of very small 5 beard rockling, then a nice 28cm shore rockling

. I had to leave at 10pm, still with a bit of bait left, so I consoled myself that I would have dumped the mack fillet anyways

. I'd say the fish were only coming out at that stage though

By the way , it was cold
