tides didn't really suit last week with lows falling in darkness, and slept in on sunday morning due to an encounter with some cheap vino the night before

but got it together today and skived off college for a wee session. despite a lack of wind in town the estuary had a fair breeze, making casting awkward, but i battled away. - had the life scared out of me when a seal swirled in the water about 8 feet in front of me. fishing was slow nothing happening and very cold - i was nearly going to pack it in when a slight drop in the wind made casting a little easier ( the wind was blowing from the left - tide pushing in from the right - makes for awkward fishing! ) finally hooked into a fish - fought like an absolute demon - had him on for a good while before i seen him and was starting to think it was a really good fish - when i got him in he was smaller than he felt and it turned out he was actually hookd in the gill cover - explained the fight - saying that still my best fish this year

guy beside me had a crackin fish close on 3lb and two small ones in rapid succession about 100 yards down the channel - but that was it for me, and with a slightly soggy butt from leaky waders i called it a day.
(FWIW, i have a licence, where i am fishing is open for sea-trout and all fish are logged )
