one turbot:

Report:

decided to go head out try find my own sandeel/ razorclam beds as the bait freezer is almost as empty as my wallet, time to collect rather than buy these trickier to find baits..
Headed to a mayo strand after much online research, figured tides were nice and low due to aul Luna phase.
Got there, no joy finding the sought after baits, and no lug beds to even get back up baits. I'd brought the rods anyhow, and one Mackeral from the end of freeezer, sea was dirty for bout 300yrds, mainly due to the river on the strand, and many kelp rafts were going to make this a short session- one cast session in fact.
once too much weed began to try dragging rods in, I admitted defeat , but in amongst the kelp was first Turbot of 2013, not a beast by any means, but welcome, that with a lovely fresh day to be out made up for lack of bait/ longer fishing session..>>

The hunt will continue!

he is a nice turbot,,well done on getting out,,,im gagging to get out but have a bloody chest infection so im housebound for another day or too.ur a bit early for the sandeels yet but razors no,,,the problem there i think,,if you have located a bed,and they are not there,,that could be to do with last years algae tides,,,mayo was hit badly ,but some parts more than others,,up here where i am,,i didnt even bother to go out looking for razors today,,i normally would but they are not in it from last years bad tides,,,but this may not be your story in your location,,lugs are funny,,i find if they are storms coming, cold weather due,,,sometimes they dont show up till a few days when all is over,,,,,,,,you just gotta love catching turbot thou,,,,,,class looking fish,,,,,well done to you and your mate on getting out

Cracking turbot,,,nice to get one that size..I've noticed one of my lug digging marks has been covered by 1-2 foot of sand by the winter surges and storms..
Not to mention the coastal erosion Ive seen around the country this year alone. In my opinion sea levels seem to have risen somewhat in the last 2 years. You'd probably have better luck with getting razors on a full moon low,

not this time of the year as the new moon lows are lower than the full moons,,,around april i think that will change  todays low was 0.2,,,excellent clam collecting oppertunity

Hopefully my next session will be a tad longer, at least maybe 4 casts! think of the catch potential!
