Rostonstown Strand, Wexford

Mon Feb 04, 2013 11:19 am

People:Myself, Brother in law.

Duration:7 Hrs

Tide:Low to High water

Weather:Northerly light to moderate, swung westerly after dark.

Bait:Fresh crab and lug

Rigs:2 hook clip down, pulley pennel

Results:small bass, flatties, whiting, rockling

Report:Hit the beach just before low water about 3pm. Conditions looked good, no swell or the dreaded weed. First hour was very quiet with not even a bite, then just before dark i noticed a decent knock on the rod tip so i picked it up and waited for the next knock. It came within seconds and when i got it too the beach it turned out to be a bass just under 2lbs (my first of 2013) and my first plaice ever about 1lb, Happy days! A few small whiting and flatties later and the brother in law decided to go get more lug for a marathon session. He came back a half hour later with lug that looked more like small snakes! thanks South east bait!
Well the fish must have been scared of these things cause from that point on it was pretty much nothing but little rockling after little rockling. We hung in till high water at around 10.30 and then a little frustrated at how what was a promising start turned out, but after my bass and plaice i was still smiling
