Report: First session of the new year so I thought I'd keep it simple and head to the reliable Greystones harbour. After the customary quick visit to the chipper I headed to the pier and baits in the water for 18.00. Fished two rods, both fairly close in and this produced 4 fish inside the first 15 minutes or so, 2 tiny codling, a 5-beardy and,of course a whiting

No monsters but it felt good to get the first fish of 2013 on the board. Bites were frequent and the whiting kept coming regularly with a few codling showing in the mix too. Changed one of the rods over to a pully rig with a 4/0 hook to attempt to bypass the whiting and try and winkle out a bigger shore or 3-beard rockling which seem to hang around Greystones.
My mate Sean joined me about 19.00 and was straight into the whiting. Most fish falling to mack with the lug largely ignored. Things quietened from about 20.00-22.00 with only the ever present whiting making an appearence, biggest to 29 cm with the majority about 20 cm. As the tide began to push for the last hour the fishing picked up again with a few coleys and pollock showing. Biggest pollock to 32 cm. Sean also picked of a nice wee LS-scorpion down the side of the wall.
Very enjoyable session, with plenty of small fish to keep us occupied. Good to be finally off the mark for the year

Would have stayed for an hour of the drop, as the fishing was decent, but the east coast piranhas had robbed all the bait at that stage, good complaint to have! Only downside was the bigger rockling never showed up but you can't have it all I suppose.
