Report: Decided for the first trip of 2013 that we would hit down to Youghal and see what was happening. First things first so met up with John for some fresh crab,, as always thanks a mill John.
We Decided to hit a mark that neither of us had fished in the past, everything was looking ok, espeicially after last weeks trip with Joebhoy when we had trees passing us

Small bit of a breeze kicked up but nothing to worry about.
When we got to the mark we 2 other lads already fishing there so with the bit of banter done we got the gear set up and baits launched. As the tide was coming in there was a fierce rip of water but again nothing to worry too much about. We then got a bit of entertainment from a group of youngsters enjoying their tinnies avoiding the local garda, as he came one direction they scuttled off the other and by the looks of it Christmas was good to this lad and there was no way he was going to catch up with the young lads
The lads below us had a small codling on their first cast so anticipation was on the upward level of 'Oh please God let us catch something'
I got off the mark first with a nice wee codling, no keeper but plenty of time left. Over the next hour or so we had more codling, dogfish, whiting and decent coalies, then for around 2 hours things went quiet. then Bassmania got a clunker of a knock and was into a decent fish, was into it for a while then disaster, snap off

. after a few choice phrases lines were reset. After another while he got another bang and this time was set, was into a good fish, i could just about see something breaking the surface but could not make out what it was, eventually Bassmania got the fish in below us, it took 3 of us working in turns to haul the beast up, what we were hoping was maybe a good cod or a decent ray turned out to be a 10lb + conger eel who was very drunk off. Did not manage to weigh or photograph the fish
Suddenly i noticed a decent knock on one of my rods, struck in and could feel something decent on, as i scraped away i could a lovely ray break the surface in front of me, got the fish up and got to weigh it, weighed in at 6.5lbs, i got bassmania to take a photo but did come up at all so sorry for the lack of pics in the report.
After this the tide turned we had another couple of whiting and small codling, we packed it in around 1am and hit for the hills, all in all we a great old session, no keepers caught but 6 different speices caught so happy days
