Mon Dec 24, 2012 12:57 am

People: just me

Duration: 4pm - 8.30pm

Tide: up

Weather: clear calm cool night

Bait: rag

Rigs: aye

Results: 5 species

Report:
fancied a go at Cushendun Beach this evening. fishing was poor with nothing but tiny bites and tiny fish
another angler beside me didnt fair much better either as he was only getting tiny fish too
species caught: pin whiting, pin cod, pin coley, pin pouting and a palm sized flounder  was happy with the variety tho and glad to see a wee pouting as it brought my species count for the year to 20 8)
crabs eventually started arriving and i had to give up on the hope of a decent fish to appear from nowhere..
a few pics FWIW

Fair play for sticking it out and getting a few before the crabs came on....

That's a good variety of hand sized species, perfect to test the macro mode of your camera ! Nice pictures !

Nice succession of pics Charlie, good variety. Is that pouting a new species for the year for you? Lovely wee cod.

Edit, just noticed it is a new one for the year, funny that as I was asking you if youd even been counting this year only the day before. I asked you if youd got a pouting only the day before.

cheers Cathal. aye, i was pretty impressed to see a wee pouting, it was great. i rarely get them round here so i was pretty chuffed. the guy beside me was catching a steady stream of them all evening
yes, so thats the species count up to 20 for the year (if you include that octopus - which i am  ). plenty of fish that could have been on there that i maybe could/should have caught too. but not a bad wee line-up

have never caught a smooth hound fisherman59, would love to. particularly a starry smooth hound 8)
never caught a spurdog or tope for that matter either  have made some plans though to head out with a few guys in 2013 to try for both species from a kayak.. that should be interesting!
defo like the sound of a smooth hound in the south east. need to make plans to get down there for sure (and to also target plenty of other fish too - bass, ray, flounder.... )
