With a lot of fesh crab and loads of traces made up from last night i decided ill do a spot of fishing down monkstown, After going to the shop and getting a big jucy breakfast roll i headed down to the wall. The sun was out and shinning everything was going good but it was just about to get a whole lot better.

I take out the rod and put it together and open up the box to get my abu 6500 mag and then think sh*t i left it at home, anyway no worry i have my trusty ol 525 with we so i take her out and then to my delight i see that there is a huge birds nest and no shock leader. So after a good 10 minuets well spent trying to untangle the birds nest i achieved it. Then i went into the box and took out the shock leader as i just start to tie the knot the weather gets from good to amazing the rain starts pouring down oh how i love tying leader knots in the rain :D . I finally tie it at bait up a big juicy peler crab on to my pully rig all going well so far. so out onto the foot path to cast i load the rod up and out she goes the i heard a loud Bang. YESS!!!! a birds nest and the line gone Oh this day was going so good. At this point the rain was like a monsoon I was loving it. So Off i go again tying another leader knot in the monsoon I finally got that over and done with and casted out. I decided after all that i need a fag so i go into my pocket and to my horror realize i was after leaving them at home oh how could this day get any better!! , well i am about to tell you.

After about 5 min i was getting small bites on my rod, i let them develop for a few min and then started reeling in there was a huge weight on my rod i thought maybe this mite be a good fish, as my line gets closer to the wall i look down and there it is the biggest sea weed fish i have ever caught in my life i was delighted brought it up over the wall and weighed it and measured it 30lb and about 7 meters long new PB for me delighted. Im sure it was a specimen but because i am a nice man i threw it back to fight another day :)

By now the rain had stopped and the sun was out. It stayed clear for about a hour but that did not change anything still not a single nibble. Then out of nowhere the monsoon started again, Thats when i decided FU*K this im going home so after loosing 3 traces, being drenched to the skin i headed home 3 hours fishing not one fish, This is the first time i have ever blanked down in Monkstown i never thought id see the day last Sunday i had 57 fish down there where are they all gone :( . I Know because the water was green there was so much fresh water in it im surprised i did not catch a carp or a pike or something. All i know is i will not be taking a trip down to Monkstown again until i know for sure there is some nice fish in but its December now i think we will have to wait till next December before we see some nice cod at this rate. Personally this world ending on the 21st is looking like its true i never thought id see the day when i would blank down in Monkstown something fishy is going down.

Sounds like one of those days which i hate. Just forget it and move on.Maybe this is just me but i would think that there would be a very high mortality rate for any returned fish on the wall and with so many people happy to catch and "keep" tiddlers down there maybe just maybe its having an affect on an area .
Although having said that most places are fishing similar at the moment.

3 Errors in fishing Monkstown yesterday
1. It was a Spring tide 0.3m at low water and 4.1m at high
2. You would have been fishing a dropping tide for most of the day
3. All the rain during the week would have had the river in full flood

Put all 3 together and it would be a waste of time with best about an hour or two of fishing after low later

You will still be able to fish away but the catch rate drops.
The weather (rain) plays a big part in fishing the dropping tides. If the river is in flood then no weight will hold bottom as you have to compete with the ebb plus the fresh water that has been held back by the flooding tide

With the combination of Spring tides and flooding in the river, the incoming tide will hold back the fresh water and back it up as far as the weir at the County Hall.
As soon as the tide turns all hell will break loose and you now have three times as much water coming back down as went up

P.S. It’s fishing shite as well so that did not help either. Next weekend have better tides. 8)
