People:Me and the bro.

Duration:Approx 4 hrs

Tide:3 hrs up and 1 down, hi tide @ 9.15.

Weather:Calm, odd spit of rain.

Bait:Fresh lug, frozen mackerel.

Rigs:2, 3 hook flappers and 1 up 1 down rigs

Results:4 tiny codling and 1 small coalfish.

Report:
I wasn't too hopeful when we arrived just after low tide to dig some lug as the sea was flat calm with no wind, however sometimes you just have to fish when you get the opportunity rather than when conditions seem right. We soon had about 60 lug plus a few white rag and a surprise small sandeel and proceeded to set up the rods. Rather than fish over clean sand in the calm water, we chose to try some more mixed ground and fish a bit closer in. The fishing was extremely slow, it was over an hour before the first fish, a small coalfish of about 17cm, took a mackerel strip. It remained slow with only 4 very small codling coming to lug baits. Last time I fished here I got 5 small codling prompting Rodger the Dodger to compare them to fish fingers, well these 4 were too small for even the sardine tins! Still you can only catch what's in front of you and sometimes we (or is it just me?) don't even manage that....As always it was good to get out and for a change, with a bit of company.

Hard luck JW. The fishing seemed slow on the east coast generally this weekend :( At least you beat the blank.

I'd consider that a result along this stretch of the coast this time of year.
A few more frosts might bring some bigger codling up this far :)

That seems to be as good as it gets at the moment.

Yeah, and some better summer weather might even bring up a few smoothies?

I haven't had that many blanks, but only because I haven't fished it that many times!

Luckily I stocked the freezer with sausages when they were in season.

Wouldn't it be worse if you knew there were fish, felt certain you would catch some and then caught nothing?
