Report:
Headed off to a east cork beach after collecting our bait. Conditions for a few days before had been nice and cold so the hopes of a few cod were high. We got to the first spot about 4pm and after two casts each resulting in in lost tackle decided to move down a bit further. Settled in our next spot and first casts were made with half peeler on a 3/0 single clip down for me and crab lug cocktail for Jim. Within five minutes Jim was landing a nice codling of about the 2lb, nice start. Another five minutes or so and I was into a decent ray which did what it wanted to do as I was powerless to stop it swinging way over to the my left and stuck its nose in a rock. All I could do was try to turn it but no joy watching the wings flapping away on the surface it took a dive and gone. Reeled in hook snapped, gutted. Anyway for the rest of the session it was kinda patchy but the end tally was worth every minute of the constant what could have been thoughts going through my head. Next time.
