Greystones pier, 2 Nov 2012

Sat Nov 03, 2012 11:19 pm

People: Me

Duration: 22 h 30 - 24 h 00

Tide: high at 1 h 30

Weather: cold but calm and clear night

Bait: ragworms (barely alive)

Rigs: 2 hook flapper (size 2)

Results: 1 flounder, 2 whitings, 1 pouting, 1 pollack, 1 sea scorpion

Report:
finally a break in those windy days. This made the cold easier to stand and the bites easier to see. And there was plenty of bites ! After having done the duties of a family guy, I finally went out to Greystones pier. I was glad to see that the pier was clean of trash. There was just another angler. It was nice to have some company. The night was starry and very pleasant.

It was a small last minute session, just to use my leftover ragworms from a trip in Donegal... this was last week, so the rags were almost all dead. However, those zombie worms were as efficient as the wriggling ones. They even caught 2 new species I've never encounter before : a pouting and a sea scorpion. By the way, please correct me if the flatfish isn't a flounder and if what I think to be a pollack is a coalfish.

I also want to thank eyesreilly. We never met, but all his reports, especially those about Greystones, were really inspiring for the beginner that I am. They contain plenty of usefull details and show how easy it is to have a good fishing session. And of course, they are very enjoyable to read !

Your last pic (DSC01046.JPG) shows a dab, not a flounder, the 4th picture (DSC01047.JPG) is one of the infamous pin whiting, which you might encounter a plenty until springtime on the east coast, nevertheless they are a welcome blank saver and the 2nd photo (DSC01050.JPG) is a pollock indeed.
Look forward to reading many more reports from you and tight lines!

Well done JPA  ,,,,,,And congrats on the 2 new species,,,,,,,,,,,,,it's always a bonus to be going home with some new species under your belt  . Funny enough I've found that the fishing dies off coming up to High water so you did very well. PS,,,thank's for the kind word's,,,,,,,,I feel a bit lazy now that I haven't been putting up many reports in the last while  . In fact only last week I had a couple of nice codling around the 45cm mark from there,,,,,,,,in close on rag right under my nose,,,,,,very tasty  Just goes to show ya!!,,,,,,,,you never know what's out there till you get your bait in the water,,,,,,,,and there's certainly some decent fish prowling around that pier

very handy indeed. This brand new pier is very safe and well lighted. And as you said, it's quite reliable for fishing.

Couldn't it be just a coincidence ? ... I'm at that pier very late usually, I've never met the littering guys (it's one of the reasons I wait till it's late...).

It's like the OK corral down there some days in summer, lots of lead flying and not much direction on any of it! The only tactic is to arrive at about midnight as JPA said.
