Report:
Well this report is a long time coming, I know some of you were discussing my demise, but no, I’m alive and well ..just work and personal life have gotten in the way of the more important things in life like fishing!!!. But I have been out a couple of times and not having the time to report on my fishing exploits, but this report will bring it up to speed I hope with a few highlights of previous brief trips out. Well headed out on Monday night to one of my normal grounds with a good friend, Dodger, in the hope of teaching some worms to swim, (sadly we failed in that mission) but to say the night wasn’t entertaining would be far off the mark, with Pouting, poor cod, whiting (23cm), doggies, Dabs and Flounder showing and kept my rods busy, but the highlight of the night for me was an octopus!! A nice happy chappy who decided to stick himself to the ground (took me longer trying to get him off the ground and back into the sea, then it did to unhook him!!) But a couple of the more memorable trips I went out on this year was taking my son out on his FIRST boat trip chasing Tope, the weather was against us with Heavy swells and we couldn’t get out to the Tope grounds so we made the best of the situation and headed for the banks, sadly my son got sea sick BUT despite it, he wants to go out on a boat again (next year son we will). With a few macky bashing trips in between, headed out to one of my favourite marks and it was a beautiful busy day with Mackerel and Lance showing, a woman with 2 kids asked If I mind showing her kids my fish .. of course not, they were thrilled, but I told them to hang on and I’ll get a member of the shark family (here I was thinking Dog Fish) baited up and casted out, lit a smoke and by the time I had finished the smoke the rod took an unmerciful knock bent right over!!! With a good account of itself a nice 3lb 15oz Bull was landed! (first of the year from the shore for me!) herself and the kids were thrilled and as I finished weighing it and putting it back to the sea (in which two swimmers came out of the water at that exact time and this woman screamed …. THERES A SHARK BETWEEN MY LEGS!!” a sentence I never thought I would EVER hear and most likely one I’ll never hear again!!) the woman with the kids, as she turned to leave, made a nice remark…” you’re a man of your word!” with that I packed up, but it brought home to me that this was fishing, pure enjoyment…….. Now for the sad news though, this year due to personal reasons I wont be able to run the Mad Haddocks Angling Party for Temple Street for Halloween, Though I will be looking at doing it again in the Near Future as Temple Street badly need funds, But once things calm down from a personal side I will be operational again that’s a promise!
