Report[/b]: Tides were perfect. September is normally the best month for bass and word had it on the street that fish were being caught.
The plan was to hit a rock mark at the bottom of the tide and fish it for 4 hours and fish a beach mark later.
The rock mark had quite a lot of weed there and was unfishable

. So we moved towards a Dungarvan mark where the world and his mother were spinning for fish. The birds were quite active at times and so we were hopeful that when the tide turned the fish would move in

. The water was stuffed with herring fry and sand smelt. Anyway after 4 hours we hadn’t a bite and did not see anybody else catch fish either. So it was off for a bite to eat and hit the second mark.
This started very well with me hooking a nice bass on first cast. When he was returned Joe got a bang and missed a fish but managed a nice fish on his second cast.
We had 2 missed fished then. One lifted the rod out of the stand and was definitely a very good fish.
Overall, I would have expected far more fish but hey that’s fishing
Went for a few drinks later and met some locals who had also had a fishless day. The reckoning is that the local bays are absolutely chocker-block with fry and so the bass are all stuffed with food. Sounds like a good explanation.
