Nice fish Doggy! You should try "re-sizing" down to a max of 839 pixels rather than cropping. Microsoft Office picture manager is one way of doing it.

Have a look at Fisherking's post "Wrasse sessions" on page 3; a 5lb 8oz ballan, nice enough for you?

You'll find that they are territorial so if you go back to the same spot you have a good chance of catching it again! Then you can weight the big guy!
I recently caught the same wrasse twice in the same week. Here's a link to the thread.

to any one who fishes for wrasse and pollack get this, just back from kerry where i tried soft plastic lures for the first time for them, was aiming mainly for wrasse, the way you hook the lures to the hook masks the point so you can spin it thru almost any weed and you will not get snagged...., had a dozen casts on the advice of my friend beside me and caught a 4lb wrasse and 3lb pollack, no snags and now a defo convert, you gotta read up on this and try them... absolutely brilliant way of fishing!

Cool, What type of soft lure was it - colour, make?

er, wud need to get that info off my pal, he is more up to date re. that sort of thing, i saw him catch a few then raided his gear for my own entertainment! it was 'cone head' weight ontop of an unusual 'rigging' soft plastic hook, there is a knack to mounting the lure so that it is presented ideally, the lures were quite dull in colour and more worm than fishlike, and just 'trotted' about in deep weedy areas. good luck

I had a few last weekend on small sandeel like soft plastic hooked on a small size 2 jig head and was just raising and dropping the rod tip making the lure rise and fall in the water column. Ive heard they attack the lure in such an aggresive manner to get rid of the fish from its territory more so than for food. It wasnt a wrasse that told me that tho so not sure if its true or not.
