Letterfrack, Galway, 16/Sept/2012

People: Me and Bob

Duration: 5 Hours or so

Tide: Spring tide rising from low to high

Weather: Mainly bright, occasional sunny, sometimes overcast

Bait: Sandeel, Mackeral, Squid

Rigs: Single hook Pulley

Results: Six Dogfish and what I think is a Bull Huss <not sure, never seen one before>..... (or else the biggest doggie I've ever seen).

Weather was great for the month that's in it, scenery was unbeatable. Cuisine..... well what can I say, it's hard to beat a Hang Sanguich on Brown Bread....
All in all not what we were after but not a blank. First time shore fishing in about ten years so its good to be back at it again.

Hopefully post a pic tomorrow of the big Dogfish (fingers crossed it was a Bull huss) and maybe someone can I.D. it for me.
Signing off...................im knackered............ :D

oops....

Wind was from North Northwest, mild to moderate (if that makes sense, not sure if wording is right but you get the gist).......
Water was pretty clear and slightly choppy for a bay, turning to calm later on....

You can tell the difference between Doggies and Huss by checking the nostrils. I dont know if you have pics of their noses but if you do, here's how you can tell them apart.

A doggie aka a Lesser Spotted Dogfish's nostrils go all the way to the mouth.

A Bull Huss aka Greater Spotted Dogfish's nostrils have small flaps and don't join up to the mouth.

Thanks for that, yep it had small flaps allright.
Now that I think about it it couldn't have been anything else. It was very strong, quite unlike a Dogfish. Quess I am a bit rusty...........Thanks again.......... :)
