Report:Nothing much to report. I did meet two lads over from Cornwall on a week's bass angling holiday. They said they were disappointed with their returns so far. They'd only caught one bass since arriving on the Friday. However, they said they were on their holidays so they weren't going to be too downbeat. They even said they'd still come back next year. I also met a very friendly and informative Waterford man who was also spinning for bass. One thing that concerned me was how much he was aware of netting on the Copper Coast and how he even knows who the people are. However when I asked him if he ever reported them he said '..no, I couldn't be bothered - I'm actually not that much of a conservationist really...'. I couldn't help but feel a little despondent when reflecting on his mindset. Anyway each to their own I suppose! :|

That's part of the problem every one knows whats going on and even who's doing it. But trying to get the point across that every thing should be reported  pity about the blank. one day it will come right for you john.

Terrible to hear about the netting John. However, I think that it is not as widespread as it used to be in W Waterford.

This year has been very bad for bass fishing inshore. I think that there may be several factors affecting , particularly weather. This year we have had huge amounts of rainfall. This means a huge amount of fresh water feeding into the sea in places like Dungravan. and Youghal. Even the mackerel have been scarce. The winds have been form the NW for a lot of the time also.

The one day that we had a good southerly last week I caught 2 bass and missed 2.

This time last year I had at least 80 bass this year I have managed 11.

In 1 session I caught 18 and in another 20.

I am hopeful that if conditions return to normal that my catch rate will increase.

Hi John,
Unfortunatly John not everyone shares the same passion as u do with regard to conservation and this obviously frustrates you.All you can do is continue to promote it and know youve done ur best.In the current climate you have peeps out there that would do anything for a quick few quid regardless of how there actions effect others.
With regard to local anglers not reporting the netters. These anglers have to live there and would be putting themselves in harms way if they were to report or approach these guys.Illegal netters dont see the value of bait or lure fishing so have no respect for our much loved sport.
There are people out there who are paid to uphold the law and are aware of the illegal netting of bass and arent bothered.I reckon unless solid proof is presented to the powers that be (eg:photos of crime being commited, photos of offening parties in action) and a visit by the powers that be to the location while crime being commited nothing will be done.Policing all the bass marks down south would be very costly i feel.
