Report:Well after a failed trip to the Hook a few weeks back it was time for a second attempt, a few phone calls later and the plan was in place, we would head down on the Saturday and fish the dropping tide,

Saturday finally arrived and as usual i had to make a panic trip to a tackle shop to get a few last bits of tackle, then get out and dig some Rag - Im starting to find that if im pressed for time the rag wont play ball..... an hours worth of digging didnt produce quite the size or numbers of rag i would have liked.... Sadly I couldnt stay any longer as i was already cutting it tight to get to Daves,

Finally arrived at Daves 20mins late (poxy traffic lights), started transferring gear over to his car, mid way through the transfer tho, it started raining, great stuff, got the last of the gear moved finally and we were on our way,

The drive down was one of anticipation and hope that there would be plenty of fish around and that there would be no rain and deffo no high winds, as we got closer the weather was clearing, the wind was a bit strong but not too bad and the sun was blazing, we arrived at the hook and the sea looked flat, or at least it looked flat until we got closer to the rocks, there was a bit of a chop running but it still looked fishable..

Got the gear out and made our way to the first mark, got down the rocks and we both set up with jellys, tried various spots on the mark for a good half hour before deciding there was nothing here, so packed the gear and moved to another mark, was pretty much the same here we tried a few casts all along the mark but nothing was showing, i decided to try a spot which had a kelp covered ledge running along side it, cast out quite far and slowly brought the jelly back towards the ledge, first couple of casts, nothing, on the 3rd tho, just as i was about to lift the jelly out of the water.... WHAM.... fish on, got a small fight off him before i managed to steer him away from the ledge and lift him out of the water, a Pollock, id say in around the 33-35cm mark, my next cast, in the same area resulted in a hook up of something that fought harder and felt bigger, i lost him just under the surface as it managed to shake the hook free... not to be outdone tho i dropped the jelly back into the area where the fish had come off, as i was looking down watching the lure as i retrieved i could see small pollock chasing the lure up, it would try a grab at the lure then swim back down, i had this happen 2 or 3 times...

I didnt get anymore hits with the jellies so it was time to switch to the Rag, Dave had also copped onto this and was stood beside me fishing in the same area also using rag at this stage, from this point it was nearly a fish a cast, i was dropping my bait about a foot away from where i was stood and pulling up Wrasse after Wrasse, the biggest being a good 2-3lb- and what a scrap he put up, i had my doubts i was gonna get it out of the water!!!!!!

Dave meanwhile, was pulling out small pollack cast after cast!!!!!!

All in all it was a good evenings fishing, all the fish went back alive except for the biggest pollock which went home with me for my sunday dinner...

Rag would only be in the water and only using 3gram shot it took a while to sink an rod was getting knocks on the way down and my biggest wrasse was around 3pounds. :) :)
