Thu Jul 19, 2012 3:10 pm

People: Myself

Duration: Three hours each session

Tide: Flood

Weather: Heavy showers with a moderate North West wind

Bait: Lugworm

Rigs: One hook Wrasse Rig

Results: June 25th: 4 Ballan Wrasse. July 17th: 12 Ballan Wrasse

Report:
June 25th

The Recent red tide  has ruined the fishing around a lot of the main marks over the past four weeks, the Pollock have moved out to cleaner water making spinning a waste of time you’d be lucky to save the blank with a small fish under a pound weight  & even the Wrasse fishing suffered with just one Wrasse on some trips so I’ll start with the two better sessions.
On June 25th I headed to a mark to see if the water was any clearer & luckily it was, the recent bit of rough sea seem to do the trick & the water was getting back to it s usually clarity.
I baited up with a one hook rig with some lug drop down along the rock edge but the bites were few & far between but after a bit of shifting around I caught four nice Wrasse all around the 4o cm mark 8) I tried a spot of spinning but still no Pollock back

July 17th

I went to dig a few Lug & hit the same mark as last time to see if the fishing had picked up. I started on the first Wrasse mark which I’ve some great size fish over the years, baited the hook with Lug dropped it down but not a nibble  so I walked on the another rock mark & tried there & started off with a few bites & caught one small wrasse after fifteen minutes  so time to move another deep hole fifty yards up the rock baited up with lug dropped it down It hadn’t hit the bottom when a nice Wrasse grabbed it hit & run style & this was how the fishing went for an hour with a eleven good Wrasse plus one big one landed all around the 40 cm & plenty more lost but the last few drops I lost a good size fish that bolted under a ledge so baited up again this time with a few nice size lug & dropped it down & got a savage take  after a great scrap I got her to the surface & landed a lovely big Ballan 8) took a few pics & she hit the scales at 5lb 8oz happy days 8) Let her recover in the rock pool for a while before been letting her go to fight another day...

Cheers ferg, most would be around the 2lb to 3lb mark but the 5lb plus Wrasse would be all around 50cm in length
