Arrived down for a two week holiday with family in tow. Brought all the gear with me looking to catch a few with the kids. Hit the beach around 8ish and had two rods out. The was a pretty big surf running and the conditions looked very promising.
However, first cast had a mountain of seaweed hanging of the lines, almost like a clothes line. The weed was pretty bad and had to retire a rod, as was trying to enjoy, respondably mind you, a few beers.
Around 9ish, had the tell tale bang on the lug and was into a nice 4+ pounder. Dorsal erect, not a happy camper. She was pretty fat, not your usual schoolie. Didn't have a measure with me, but I'd guesstimate around 43/44. She went back into the surf, after a brief wtf pause.
The weed just got worse and worse and became unfishable. At one stage I had to actually "play" a mountain of seaweed with the clutch just to get my rig back. Each incoming wave gave me a bit of line to take in, then the surf would rip it out again, until finally, the surf weed snapped my .40 sufix tri.
All in all, stayed dry. Chuffed I managed to tickle a nice bass out of all that weed. Learned a bit about a westerly on the beach, looking forward to some southerlys.

Well done on the catch, fellas that have been out on kayaks around the country are findin catchin the bass difficult enough, the conditions don't help.

at least you got one out of the weed

i suppose all the weed and kelp is what makes that area so fishey but it can wreck your head to drive so far only to see weed everywhere when you arrive

A few beers and a nice fat fish, you could put up with a bit of weed for that.
It's a real pain when it builds up so much you can't fish.
Good luck for the rest of the hols.

Thanks lads. Went down again today (burrow shore, I believe it's called) after a sneaky recce. No weed, and not much colour. A nice southerly with more sun. This is bliss.
Had one decent knock knock, adjusted my stance and took my hands out of my pockets. Lucky I did cause the rod jumped out of the rod rest! But alas.....
Had 3 flounder in the end on 4/0, would you believe it? One pick of the flounder and several artistic shots of cold beers wedged into the sand.
Such are holidays, enjoy work y'all
