Two weeks fishing on the peninsulas of W.Cork.
Species : huss/dogs/pollock/wrasse/flounder/mack and launce.
Methods : bottom/float/spinning/feathers
Baits : lug/rag/peeler/razor/sand-eel/launce/mack.
Best fish near 4 kg pollock.
Loads of marks fished, often just for an hour or two, so that new places could be tried.
The best of the pollock/wrasse came from marks not 10 minutes from our rented cottage near Dunmanus harbour. Sadly, no ray showed at Bantry or at another
mark on Mizen where they had previously shown. A few new marks fished on the Beara between Eyeries and Allihies were disappointing. Fishing on the bottom
with mack gave a blank; the place must be carpeted with spider-crabs ! I even brought a few of the huge things to the rocks ! I was hoping for a first
shore-caught ling in the 30 metre plus depth ! Mack were in very short-supply and had to be bought ! The few we caught were eaten !
Our most enjoyable day was spent on Dursey Island. We walked from the cable-car to the end and back and had to admit that access to any rock-marks would
be problematic to say the least ! There is good fishing around the Sound/cablecar and slipway, but elsewhere would require my climbing-gear and a rope for abseiling !
Dursey is a World appart ; the views from the end and the Signal-tower ( highest point) are to die-for!
Fish-wise, it wasn't the best holiday we've had in the area, but the weather was better than usual and nothing beats a pint of cool Murphy's after an 18 km hike on Dursey Island at O'Neill's Bar in Allihies !
Well, perhaps the same pint accompanied by an open-crab sandwich at Crookhaven, in O'Sullivan's bar; but that's another debate !

Sounds like a nice relaxing break,,

.
If the fish are scarce down there, there scarce everywhere.
Heading down that way in a weeks or two, was there any size in the Huss?

Nice report. Sheepshead is a fantastic part of Ireland.

Not been back here for a while.
No, the huss went to about 4 kg.
Can't complain though, many would be happy to get in a whole year what we got in just 2 weeks
