Tried off the rocks in Skerries facing Colt Island, half way between the swimming spots last night. Surprisingly easy fishing! The bottom is good, must be sandy as the grippers dug in immediately and didn't lose any gear. It's a really fishey looking spot. Didn't catch anything but It's got to produce.. Had a hard time keeping bait on the hooks with the crabs. Packed up early as I didn't really have the time but I'd sat that after dark it could be good. Rocks a bit slippy though care needed.

It's extremely fishy looking alright but the fishing has nose dived around skerries Balbriggan area over the last 10-15 years I remember you were nearly guarenteed wrasse and pollack but not any more ,just a pity the fuel costs are so high I'd hit Wicklow wexford all the time, but you've inspired me to try a Balbriggan rock mark ,you never know but I'd say the same as how u got on though, now to get some crabs......

Got a report from a good source of a net that was placed between the seawall and the island on the right as you head into skerries. The person in question landed a haul of large bass plus a salmon.

Yep unfortunately I keep hearing rumours about it going on myself ,I was told about netting on the north beach Balbriggan they were targeting trout, the method they use is anchor the net to the bottom and have floats to spread the net but the floats do not reach the surface ,then later they tow a hook to find the net,I can only imagine the damage to the stocks of fish and I'd say the seals eat most of them out of the net, this country will only cop on when the fish are gone

Tried the spot facing colt tonite ,had same bait as u Chris and same result,I brought a spinning rod too tried for macks a while no joy at all not even a micro pollack took the spinner ,also tried the gullys for wrasse which I ground baited with a steady supply of crushed hard back crabs which were hammering the big rod every cast, but did see a large trout jumping which did spur me on a bit ,ah well it was good to get out

Fair Play Eoghan!

Were you there for the slack water at low tide? I'm thinkin that this may be a good window of opportunity as there is quite a flow through there when the tide is low....

Yea about an hour before and after low tide ,was thinking of putting on the Chesties next week and following the tide out to shennick ,is there much of a flow over that sand bar?

There's quite a bit, make sure if you're at Shenick you know the pools around as when the tide comes in you could find yourself stranded on a bar...

If you're feeling adventurous you could stay on the Island for the day, depending on the time of the tides. The depth off the bar at the front of the island will get to 6 feet or so before it's covered. There are lots of mullet, good sport if you can get them to feed. Big Flounders too!

I'll probably just fish the ebb and get back before the channel floods too much ,I'll bring the lures their has to be trout and bass there but fishing has been poor for a few years but as they say if you don't go you never know ,anyway low water is about eight on Sunday morning so I'm gonna start about 5 or 6 if anyone wants to join me on my adventure their more than welcome!
