Mon May 21, 2012 11:24 am

People:me

Duration:6.00-10..pm

Tide:up and over

Weather:mild and calm

Bait:lug, mackeral, squid

Rigs:flapper, pulley, conger trace

Results:" odgs, 2 strap conger, ballen wrasse, Long spined sea scorpian (I think)

Report:
Not exactly a fast and furious session but enough to keep the interest, things should pick up as the week goes on if this warm weather comes in, hope I get out again. Was really surprised that I didn't pick up any flats not sure why :?: Had a few strap conger after moving to from the poker of a boat rod to a cheap beach caster to target them, def found this to be more sport and a better fight, looking forward to getting a decent eel on it. Just the one wrasse and even picked up a new species :D had a short spined one once before but pretty sure this seems to be a long spined one from what I can tell, mabey someone can confirm/correct this for me :?:

nice one man :P
the easiest way to distinguish the short spined from the long spined species is the second dorsal.
on the LSSS it starts and ends fully attached to the back of the fish
where as on the SSSS there is a little gap between the end of the fin and the back of the fish before the start of the tail.
also the LSSS rarely grows bigger than 20cm but the SSSS can reach weights in excess of 2lb and 40cm in length
i'd love to get one of those big fellas on the end of the line :P
