People:Me
Duration:8.30-10pm
Tide:High water 9.20pm or so.
Weather:Cool, steady south east wind.
Bait:Spinner and fly.
Results:
Got a nice pound and a quarter pollack on 2nd throw with spinner after a dozen odd fruitless throws with fly. With the quick success I thought I'd hit a better one on spinner but a succession of small fish followed, very small- less than half pound.
About 9.30 I gave it another go with the fly rod, sinking line and a very basic white hair wing about 3" long tied on a double hook- its now stuck in the weed and gone. Got 8 pollack on the fly between 9.30 and 10.15pm, most were very small but got one just an ounce off 2lb as the light was fading and one about the pound. I kept the best 2 I got, the early one on spinner and the 2lber on the fly rod for an elderly neighbour who eats them.
A decent bit of sport, always nice to get a good pull on the fly rod. There will hopefully be bigger to come before the summer is out, if we get a summer that is??????? No sign of spring yet!

Thanks everyone for the responses, yeah they might not be sea trout or bass or turbot but thank God for the humble pollack. You can get a great evenins fishing with them and one thing about them is, they love to take flies close in to the rocks so to me they are a great sporting fish. Even modest sized fish on fly tackle is well worth going out for. Roll on some bigger ones!!

Cheers Billy, if you can catch trout on the fly youll have no bother catching pollack, I wish trout always took flies as keenly as pollack do. It is good crack alright, they can give some really hard runs when you get them up close to the surface. Even that 2lber there which is a very modest pollack gave me a good run or 2 down deep into the weed, strong fish.
And Al, thanks for the response, youve been busy yourself, thats a hell of a report you put up, some lovely fish there, nice variety, great pics. Love the goby. Some nice pollack there, especially that one of Jordans!
