Report:
The North Coast tides wern't to our liking this week so we took ourselves over to our winter haunt on Waterfoot Pier. After a slow start we starting getting good bites although the crabs were having a field day with the mill pond like sea state. Nial was having great fun catching a good mix of species. He was casting off the back wall of the pier into good deep water but there was a heck of a cold breeze blowing around there. I stayed at the barrier and had a good time after last week's blank. I was more than content and blooded my new Okuma Mag multiplier with a brace of LSDs. :D

The pier was busy with some youngsters from down the country trying out shore fishing for the first time and a couple of other sea anglers having a go as well with spinners and floats. One of my fellow anglers let me try some bluey as a bait and the results were spectacular :o It was attacked imediately by all and sundry and can't wait to try some out in a strong surf where the crabs would not be as busy. The only downside was the rank smell of some awful stuff that seemed to have been tipped around the place, not good at all :(

All in all a good nights fishing, a good spread of species for Nial K and a welcome change from the blank for myself.

Thanks lads :D Great to see some life in the sea.

There were a lot of folk fishing the beach on Wednesday night with beach shelters set up. I've never tried fishing over there, is it recommended? What might I expect to catch?

Tight lines over the weekend lads!

We fished up there for most of the winter where the tide was high between seven and ten. It rarely disappointed and produced a great variety of species. It's also safe in rough weather and the car is near at hand. Great winter spot for us definitely, would recommend. It has got very busy recently though, lot of lads keeping tiddlers for the 'fish soup'

Give it a go definitely,
Monty

nice mix there monty. good to see the pier throwing up a decent variety. you gotta love the doggies man. sometime they are the only thing out there to give an account of themselves on the rod. it makes a cahnge from all the tiny flats, coalies and pollack we have to contend with all winter :P
