People:Me fein

Duration:09:20 to 14:30

Tide:High at approximately 12:00

Weather:Sunny, very breezy in the second half of the session, mild, clear water but a tiny bit cloudy in the second half of the session.

Bait:N/A

Rigs:Illex water monitor, 7" bright yellow senko, Smith wander 95 ghost, illex Bonnie 95.

Results:Nothing.

Report:It wasn't a spring tide but it was the last chance to get some bass angling in before the closed season. Anyway I'm sick of hearing people catch bass outside the spring tide period and I'm left to rue the fact that I sat at home! The SW breezes actually blew up a sand storm which was fairly cool. I saw a big bird of prey in the grassy dunes/cliffs. But the treat of the day was seeing a bass sitting in about 9 inches of water and about 10 inches away from the sand I was standing on with its tail to the shore and its head facing the small oncoming waves. It was awesome just looking at him as the waves lapped onto the shore. He was just bobbing up and down. It seemed almost wrong to try and catch it. I was actually tempted to grab it by the tail it was that close. I did flick my water monitor out beyond it and reeled back in. I lost sight of it once my lure had been fully retrieved. When I did catch sight of it again it was sideways as though my lure had made it turn in notice. It looked much bigger side on! It then slowly swam about a foot or two out. I couldn't see it and thought it was gone. I proceeded to walk about a half foot closer and to my surprise it was still in much closer than I had anticipated but by then it was too late, it saw me and shot out! :(

Anyway, I'll keep trying!

Hard luck John at least you tried, who needs all these fancy lures when you can just use your hands 8) . if you took a photo of him in the water you could have told us you caught him and released him again

hard luck john
but it just goes to show that you don't need to cast to the horizon to get into the bass. it's amazing just how close they will come in searching for a feed :)

Absolutely, totally and utterly amazing - I actually nearly got the same buzz out of seeing that as I would of got through hooking one! Well maybe not that much of a buzz!
