Duration: 19:30 – 00:30 (5hrs)

Report:
Well once again it had been a while since I had a cast (Easter) and was well over time to get a session on. So with the BH weekend took Friday off and headed west on that morning. Meet up with Dan & J and got to the mark at around 7:30pm. It’s a bit of a trek let me tell ya, but Dan had the rekey done a while back and I must say it looked good.

Quick chat while gearing up and on this venue and off we went.

As normal 1st cast in close and the other out a distance to see what was about. Result was a treble hook up of Turbot from in close!

Dan Then followed with a Turbot so he was off the mark as well. I then took in the rod at distance – another treble Hook up!

Tide was pushing now, so I thought that the fish were probably moving out a bit as this venue get very shallow and strands very quickly so banged one out middle range and left to soak for a while.
The other rod still fishing in close, just the other side of the suds.

J was next in with a Turbo so we are all delighted blank saved all round and the fishing was good from the off. Dusk was approaching and we thought there would be a good chance of Sea Trout (the witching hour was nearby!)
The tide was well out at this stage and there was a lovely shallow surf running just about 30/40 yards out and we agreed it would be a good place to pop a bait into just behind it.

J then landed a Flounder which added species number three to the list followed by a couple of Turbot and a Dog (species 4). It was now nearly dark and the dogs were coming on the feed. Thought to self **time to change Traces and put out the Aliens**!!!. So Took in the rod in close with results of another Turbot, 7 so far – but indicated the fish were moving out after the trebles.

After about 5 min I could hear some commotion to my left, Yea Dan was into something decent and at this stage was in the surf and so was J. (with comments like “it’s there J, right beside you, followed by where?), well to cut a long story short, Dan managed to land a 3lbs Sea trout in excellent condition and not a sea lice to be seen. I must say it gave a good account of itself and basically went mental as soon as it was hooked. The little Jig from Dan that followed was comical to say the least, but it was a PB so we were well happy for him. A quick Photo and back she it went to catch another day.

I then took in the Rod that I had put out at distance and once again another treble shot of Turbot (10 in Total). “Time to go down to one rod”, which we all did”.

Meanwhile Dan was into a double of dogs, and J then pulled in a double shot as well. The fishing had been consistent since we started and was now really picking up that the dogs had come on. The Lads were picking up dogs on nearly every cast now and I had missed at least two decent bites and one in the surf but was determined to add another species to the list before we packed up for the day.

We had a quick chat as the tide had turned and had been fishing extremely well especially on the drop, so we set said we would give it another half hour or so and see how we got on as it was getting late and we all had things on the following day. A couple of dogs followed and I managed to pick up a double on the last cast – Happy days – job done. Fishing was still good.
Shortly after we packed up and hit for home. (34 fish for 5 hrs. fishing)

Results:
Mick – 10 x Turbot, 2 x dogs
Dan – 5 x Turbot, 5 dogs, 1 x Sea Trout
J – 4 x Turbot, 1 x Flounder, 6 x dogs

Absolute great session and as always the crack was flying from the get go, definitely worth the drive. Will do it again very soon…

Thanks Alan, It was great to get a session in like this with the quantity of fish and species for a new mark. Some of the Turbos were a good size alright.

Thanks Paul, yes a slight variation on the Tip you gave me but very similiar, as for the Bait, all I can say is Top Notch :!: . The small ones are deadly and I must call down soon and get some more off ya... Thanks for the Tip...

Howdy Mick the fish in the foreground of the 2nd last photo above (on wet sand) is a Brill look at the shape of the body ;) hard to spot in palm sized fish but clear enough in a fish that size... The Turbot have a more pronounced diamond shape which you can see in the fish behind the Brill in the photo... You can check the tubercles / bumps on the fishes back Turbot have them Brill don't ;) nice fishing all the same catch up with you this evening hopefully :)
