Fish a new mark today near killary. deep water mark,, first cast doggie,, second cast a small ray,, nothing on the third cast,, forth cast out it went,, while that was out i was setting up a small float rod for some wrasse or pollockm, when the tripod went head over heels.. i thought it had just falling over but as i put the rods back up i felt a nod fish on i was thinking a doggies with the knocks it was give then it went to ground the rod was doubled over, then i knew it was not a dog but a good size ray... it stayed deep all the way in and when i got to see it i knew it was myPB from the shore... landed it i was on my own so i could not get a proper photo nor did i have any scales with me,, only had a measureing tape.. from nose to tail it measured 76cm and from wing to wing 55cm.. just put into the fishconverter.com and came back at 18lbs 8oz not sure how good that site is but it was one hell of a ray.....nor if you measure from wing to wing or nose to tip..open to suggestions........

Its a nice fish lucky, but i'm not sure about the weight conversion. It says on that site to put the wingtip to wingtip measurement in for rays and that is 55 cm which gives a weight of 7lbs. You get the 18lbs if you put the overall lenghth in but i don't think you can for rays. Its still a nice fish and i don't want to upset anyone but i am sure you would want to get the most accurate estimate. You can't tell from the photos but did it feel like a big double fish?

same as that mate was not sure myself regards the site,, either which way to measure the ray but i took a look at some rule books for comps and they say from nose to tail so open to suggestions.... ye it did honeslty feel like a double plus it had some nice dept to it....

Nice one lucky well done on the PB
I think you need to get yourself some sort of scales even the cheap luggage one's will give you a good idea of a fishes weight, they take the guessing game out of the way

my guess going by the size of it on the beta box i would only put half of the fishconverter estimate on it at most

thanks john... it only happens when you have no scales with you.. mine was in my pike bag... will have to get a second one......

Nice ray Alan! Saw one of 75cm caught on the peg beside me in a comp recently and we guessed the weight at about 8-9lbs so I'd say something around that weight - a cracker from the shore no matter what the weight is. Well done...
