Skerries

Thu Apr 12, 2012 4:28 pm

People: Me

Duration: 3hrs (2130- 0030)

Tide: rising

Weather: Bitter cold

Bait: Lug

Rigs: Flappers

Results: Codling and whiting

Report:
Had a shocker of day at work and needed to get some air to clear the head so a quick dash to dig some bait after putting the weans to bed. Couldn't be bothered driving so decided on somewhere local.

When I got to the mark the tide was starting to rise so launched two baits into the darkness and waited for something, anything...! After a few minutes the tip on my big rod started to nod in a whiting like- way. It was pretty much like this for the full session with the hooks returning bare or sporting a tiny whiting on every cast. The mark was clear of weed but the wind made it very difficult to spot any interest at the other end.

I have posted a picture of a codling that I caught half way through the session to prove that there are cod north of the Liffey (no matter how small) :D

Thats not a bad outing for skerries,,,fair play to ya Joe,.
A mate of mine fishes the stretch of coastline from Rush to Skerries and he said he's never seen so many codling ( up to 3lb) in the lobsterpots,,why we dont get them from shore is beyond me

It's a shame too as it seemed to have been great for mackerel last year going by the reports on here. I took a day off work and was float fishing up there last summer. It was great and there was plenty of fish being caught but there was people literally casting over my head as I was kneeling down to bait up. Might try float fishing for them at night! :?

Well done on the cod

Ull get a good few at night not as many as daytime but it's a small price cause it will be all yours pick a high tide about midnight and cast close in at the corner under the lighthouse
