well........where do i start with this one.
i had been out on friday night to lough swilly, which didnt produce much except two doggies for me and a blank for "rustyhooks" we where all set for a ray session and it just didnt happen!!! cant win em all i suppose!!!
so after building my self up to haul in a few decent fish and not getting any i was bouncing around like a loose marble on sat dreaming about the next fish to bend the rods and make me a happy angler once againg .
i'd purchased some of the best rag for bass from coleraine on friday - big red snakes, wriggly and viscious!!!! These boyos scare off flatties!!!!!
had to wait untill sunday night before i could get these used so collected some sea water on sat and stored them away in the water in my worm fridge. Sunday arrives, i'm up sharp, change the water on the worms and give them a wee pep talk!!! its true and i go back to bed with a cuppa tea for her and i and explain to the misses i must sleep as we'd a late sat night and i wanted to be "fresh" for sundays fishing!
i spend sunday trying to relax, back to bed for a few hours then lounging around the house, trying not to let on that if i could change time i'd already be fishing......"wait dave, wait" was the voice in my head ........ "dam i'm not sure i can" it replys....." ah balls to this i'm going fishing" comes a retort.....
withing the next hour i'm ready to rock. Rods, reels, tripod, bait, seat box......i'm ready, cars ready..."lets go" i say....but the tides still ebbing so i can afford to wait but my heads telling me i have to be fishing asap - so i set off for my mark, recieved a text from "rustyhooks" asking if i'm heading out. i replied and after i got my first set of baits in the water was joined by my mate.
we are in the process of fishing the last two hours of the ebb when i'm up at my rods watching them intently - "knock Knock" goes the tip on the kompressor...."knock Knock" it goes againg......"happy days fish showing interest" i thought.......Wallop!!!!!!! over goes the tip, rod pulls down and nearly up ended the tripod, i grab the rods and start to wind, and wind, and wind. "wheres this fish at" i'm thinking!!! slack line all over the place..... what happens next can only be described as "a small child trying to climb up my rod"
i spent the next 5-10min fighting a fish like never before, it ran at me, away from me, left, right, back in, back out, head thumps like a rapid dog, my hearts pounding, i'm holding my breath, "jesus christ" this things a double fig!!!!!!! or so i thought, once i managed a breath in between reducing the drag and letting this thing run during the lunges i shouted on "rustyhooks" - who i may add was as happy as me when he saw this thing on the beach...."six pound he shouts"..."is that all i thought" i could swear this was a double fig fish!!!
well we weighed her and she hit 6lb on the nose!!! not as heavy on the scales as it was in my hands but i was very very shakey and heart still racing - i didnt care about the weight - i was made up seeing this fish!!!!
this is not my biggest bass but it definatly the hardest figher - hooked clean in the scissors!!
quick photo of her before she went back.
To cap off this night i had second bass about and hour or so later, this one was 1.5lb and went back too. lovely clean and healthy fish we are getting at the min - long may it last!!
