People: Just me

Duration: 2hrs

Tide: Last 2hrs of Incoming

Weather: Nice, slightly cloud

Bait: Mack, Sandeel, and frozen black lug

Rigs: Flappers

Results: 4 Tiny Plaice

Report:
Not much to report really, with the good weather at the weekend I couldnt resist throwing the gear in the car and getting a few throws on Saturday evening. It was choice between a few beers watching the stoke v City match hoping for an unlikely upset or the chance of a few fish.

The beach looked quite good when I landed, wee bit of surf on it, which I wasnt expecting, I got two rods set up and away I went, by the time I got the second rod in the water I noticed the first rod twitching away, left it for a while, and eventually reeled in a small Plaice, I got three of these in the first half a hour, and the fourth just as I had decided to head for home. All four fish where 20cm or less. I will upload a few pics later, when I figure out how to get them off my new phone

Interesting that a couple of these wee boys had sandeels nearly as big as themselves stuffed in their mouths, and the seagulls where chasing a shoal of somthing around out infront of me, nearly coming righ onto the beach at one stage.
You'd think that if it was sandeels then there bound to be somthing a bit bigger coming in after them too?

Nice to know stroove is still throwing up plaice, I used to catch them as a wee boy when my mum took us to the beach, used to dig lugworm and had great fun reeling them in, lovely bright vivid orange spots. I wonder if there are any better sized specimens around? I never got anything over 20cm either, and that was almost 20yrs ago

fair enough Paddy, 4 wee plaice better than 4 wee nothings.. as scrob says, plaice a fine looking wee fish and i'd agree 8)
ive seen small shoals of sandeel being chased in and around the shore too, right in around me where ive been standing whilst fly fishing. i was using a sandeel imitation fly but there wasnt any sign of any FISH chasing them! :? ah well, guess that thats the way it goes sometimes - just no fish knowing that they were there. but those wee plaice of yours did

Yip your right Al, are yous fishing any of the comps this year? Culdaff is on 21st and 22nd of July, and Lough Foyle SAC are hosting a one day comp on Sunday 24th June, fishing will be similiar at both comps. Word is that magilligan ferry will be running again this summer.

good stuff paddy :) we'll have to give the culdaff festival a miss this year man. we're back off to norway from the 11th to 18th. so it would be a bit tight. but the lough foyle comp might be a go :P are the boats leaving from bunagee for it or is it a shore comp?
