Report:
Been persuaded by Seanie and others to have a go at the old bait fishing as opposed to my usual chucking expensive japanese lures and have had mixed success, few doggies, few coalies and school bass over the last while. I've been fishing mostly local beaches at various stages of the tide and at various times, not having been used to the much longer sessions that are a requirement it seems for ground fishing and also trying to balance it with work, sleep and her indoors so the sessions haven't been too long in duration . Anyways headed off yesterday evening to a beach I've been on a bit lately, have had a few schoolies there over the last few nights, nice conditions on arrival, bit of surf and two lads already there. Spoke with the lads no action at all and they said they would be packing in shortly and could have whatever bait was left over.Fair enough, set up and nibbles straight away but no hookups, must be coalies I thought. Was txting Seanie who was coming down later to fill him in with what was happening. The two lads decided they had enough, passed over some bait and headed off. No sooner than they had left, got a nice rattle and pulled in a schoolie, quickly unhooked, revived and released. It's lovely to see them shoot off into the surf in the light from the head light, blank avoided , rebaited and cast out. Txted Seanie to say fish got, next thing good double tap then rod arched over, hopping in the stand, lifted into a nice fish who took me a for a little walk down the beach before I was able to get a glimpse of it in the breaking surf. Bass anyway so hauled in, well happy nice fish just over 5.75lbs

. Had just landed the fish when Seanie arrived, few more rattles after that but no more fish, packed up and headed home at 12.00, Seanie fished on after that.Happy days!
