Report:
Tides were unsuitable for Waterfoot fishing on Wednesday night so we headed for the Port to fish off the 'Blue pool' We had been here a couple of weeks ago and it had proved unlucky with a malfunctioning reel and lost tackle. I gave it another go as the North Coast tides were in our favour with a midnight HT.
We set up and I baited up with Mack wrapped Sandeel (still frozen as I'd forgot to take them out of the freezer) Nial was using Rag tipped with Mack.
After a quiet while Niall landed a really nice Bearded Rockling

, first time I ever saw one live. fair play to ya man. I started to feel under pressure until my rod gave a hard twitch and when I reeled tight I knew I had pulled a cracker, a nice hard fightin' dogfish (pic below). Said doggie was released unharmed to fight another day. the tide was comin in hard at this stage and we were starting to take some spray. Our rock mark wasn't that high. I seen another twich but I was in the middle of my cup of tea so I let it stay awile. By the time I'd reeled in the whiting had been attacked by the crabs so I just tied him on to a two hook pennel and cast back in. I no time I had another hard twitch pulled in another doggie on the whiting bait!
At this stage the waves were getting scary and we in danger of getting cut off from the shore so we packed up and legged it. Don't want to be a statistic

Overall not a bad night, pleased with the doggies and a new species catch for Nial. Wouldn't be happy winter fishing there every week so its back to our regular spot next week I think.
Monty.
