Greystones 4th

Tue Mar 06, 2012 5:51 pm

People:Originalsin, Tightlines and Bro, Sparkey+1, Jayball and friend, The Dodger, Me and My kids, and then even more we knew!!! :D :D

Duration:3pm-> 10ish?

Tide: low to high

Weather: windy and cold frozen peelers were Still frozen when I got back home!!

Bait: ah really?!? list it ALL??! Everything mainly lug and mack, sandeels, crabs

Rigs: I would be killed if I gave the lads secret rigs away!! yes they had hooks!

Results:
flounder, edible crab, pollock, pouting, shore rockling, 5 beard rockling, dogfish, 1 whitting, scorpion fish long and short spine,

Report:
Well it was another trip to Old Faithful Greystones, I decided to take the kids with me this time, though they didn’t fish they were having to much fun chasing each other on the pier, Met up with Jayball and his mate Fran pleasure meeting you lads! Originalsin was there as well doing his best to calm a HUGE edible crab he just landed.

As time dragged slowly on during the day and nothing being caught apart for the crab, I was looking forward to the evening.. The Mrs picked up the kids which allowed me to fish seriously now.. no sooner were the kids picked up, the entire gang arrived, swarmed would be a good word for it.. Sparkey+1, Tightlines and his Bro, two lads from the Howth Angling Club, and last but nowhere near last was THE DODGER!!
Even 2 Russian fellas arrived… (more later there)
I would comfortable say it was all these people that arrived that triggered the fish onto the fed! No sooner were lines set and placed out then the coalies arrived, Pouting, Shore Rockling, 5 Bread rockling, Scorpion fish, Dogfish, Pollock, but I’m not jokin with the wind that night it was BITTER!!

It was like someone rang a dinner bell, at one stage I looked around and most of us hooked into something if it wasn’t a fish, it was weed, or a crab. But be warned theres a new snag at the mouth of the harbour, ¼ the way in a rope was pulled in a forthnight again so I was informed and damn if you cant get away from it!

The Russian lads remember them, I have no problem with man taken fish, HOWEVER when the bait is BIGGER then the fish ?!?! They kept the smallest pollock I've seen this year couldn't have been more then 6cm! and a shore rockling
Now I love me fish, but damn i would have found it hard to get a meal out of that one!!
Anyways I think we got the point across when they seen us throwing are fish back after a quick photo! 8) one of them kept looking at us in shock as we let decent coalies go back over the wall! hehehe

All in all the crack was brilliant on the pier despite the cold, all that really was missin was a few beers and some nice warm weather!! Now for the Photos…

Fished it on Friday night with only mac as bait and between two of us we caught pollock,coley,whiting,3b rockling, pouting and a solitary 25cm codling. All inside the harbour on mac only. We only fished with this bait because the previous session we had there it was most definitely the no 1 bait so we gave it a go on its own this time and probably saved about 30/40 yoyo

Good report Kev and it was a pleasure to fish beside rodger and share his sandell ( well it was frozen from the chill factor ) and there was a good bit of crack as usual and its thye norm now. wolud of liked to stay a while longer but the coldddddddd :!: got the better of me it was like fishing in November/december time. Did you get a pic of the crab for the pot. Not surprised the crab was still frozen even the pouting was looking cold on the ruler. :P It was warmer in the sea than on the pier.

Its the one thing I dont understand, (now I take my litter home, and any other fishing related stuff bait boxes etc, drop them in the bin nearest the piers) But this thing of taking the dog for a walk along a pier and not picking up after it, I've noticed it on ALL the piers I fished off, Howth, Dun Laoghaire, Greystones, Poolbeg etc.. in fact last year Poolbeg was like a bloody landmine field covered in the stuff! I have even notice people changing baby next to a bin.. and what do they do with the nappy in the nappy bag?? threw it into the sea, no guesses what I got snagged on when I retrived my line

Nice meeting ya the other night Kev. Yeh them Northerly winds can really send a nasty shiver up ya but a fair few fish landed so not too bad. Thanks again for the lift home  Hope your car wasn't too stinky as I was using some zombie peelers!
