Carnlough Beach & Red Bay Pier

Sun Oct 09, 2005 12:36 pm

People: - Me my brother and nephew

Duration: - 8.5 hours 23.30 - 07.00

Tide: 01.30 HT

Weather: Scattered showers & light southerly

Bait: Rag/Squid/Herring

Rigs: Pulley, 3 boom scratcher, single hook bomber

Results: Very Poor - 3 small cod all sub 1lb

Report:

We had planned this over-nighter all week and got our hands on some real good rag (cheers Vinty), plenty of grub packed, wet gear packed and everone well up for it. We fished Carnlough 1 hour before and two hours after High Tide. 1 small cod - no dogfish which was a surprise as we always get doggies on this beach.

Moved to Red Bay Pier at 03.30 - fared a little better with two small cod.

We were very dissappointed :( :( because we had hoped that night time would fish better.....

Until next time......

There was a match on Carnlough on Sat 8th 48 anglers caught 117 sizeable fish.

That might be a reason why Carnlough was poor.

yeah though it was catch and release so the fish should still have been there but maybe had bad memories of the last time they attacked a bait!

These matches and competitions at venues and different beaches can anyone turn up at these or do you have to be a memeber of a club or wat?

yeah you have to be a member of an IFSA affiliated club.its just for insurance purposes really.

some clubs let none ifsa members fish in comps but the fee is dearer for them.in my opinion you are better goining a club.

there used to be an extra levy of £5 per angler you was not a federation member per open competition, this is no longer in place, you MUST be a member of an affiliated club.

Hi conger - There is a club based in Glengormley - GADSAC that we are planning to join in the New Year go to - http://www.gadsac.freeuk.com for more info.

It was me who posted the original report - keep forgetting to log in!!!

I passed Carnlough beach when the comp was on - I believe it was Larne District Club.....
