Killala 22/1/2012

Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:49 am

People: Me

Duration: 2.30pm - 6pm

Tide: HW 5.30pm

Weather: Mild, overcast, showery, wind NW 30-40

Bait: Sandeel & Mack

Rigs: 1 up 1 down

Results: 1 X 4 inch Flounder and enough weed to fill a small skip

Report: This is my first report on this site and this was my first trip out this year. Recently bought a Century rod and a Penn 525 Mag2 from this site and was mad keen to try the outfit. Have been watching the forecast and this weekend was promised okay but with strong north westerly winds, so consulted the map and found a sheltered beach fairly local.
Got to beach about 2.15pm and conditions looked good, plenty of surf but the beach was in the lee of the land so sheltered from the wind. Set up and had first cast, bait was only in the water three minutes when rod, stand and all nearly took off. I managed to grab it and held on to drag in about ten pounds of bloody seaweed :( :( And thats the way it continued for most of the evening. Near the top of the tide I had a couple of small rattles and just as I was giving up all hope managed to pull in a tiny flounder  Blank saved! Still it was a lovely evening to be out and I was delighted with the new outfits performance. Roll on the next trip :D

I know Brian, I have had some good fishing there in the past. I just misjudged the effect of the recent storms! Ah well, we live and learn. Maybe next time.
