Weather: nice, bit of a breeze
Bait: 6 day old Ragworm
Rigs: 2 hook flapper
Results: 2lb Flounder
Report:
I decided to hit a spot tonight on a mission for Flounder if I managed to get everything wrapped up that I needed to get done at home. I had hoped my sister would head down with me, but her husband's motorcycle broke down on the way home from work so I had to go alone. The spot is quite isolated and dark and I forgot to recharge my headlamp batteries and inevitably it packed in. Also, as I don't drive and needed the wife to pick me up I could only stay for an hour because my kids go to bed early. Anyway, on my 3rd cast the Mrs. turned up and as I was throwing the worms in my rod buckled over. I was fishing nice and light with a Bass rod, tiny reel and 3oz lead and I got myself a beautiful, hard-fighting 2lb female Flounder. My favourite fish is the Flounder followed closely by the Ballan Wrasse and I am a very happy man now plus I had set myself the target of a 2lber from this particular spot so a great start to the year for me. Just a pity I couldn't fish on for a while longer. Headed straight up to my parent's house and my dad was inhaling the smell of the fish as if it were a fine wine. Just like the old days when we used to get bags of large 2-4lbers from Ballycarry Bridge, and we now have a session arranged for Friday night hopefully.
