Me- blankety blank.
Report:
Decided on a handy local session to kick off the fishing exploits for 2012 as my new years resolution is to fish the Dublin marks more (reckon I need to get used to blanking a lot![]()
).
HW at 15.40 so got set-up in daylight and ran the gauntlet of the usual questions and dogs trying to steal bait but as soon as the light faded we were back in our natural habitat![]()
A combination of very little surf and it being the middle of January meant that expectations weren't high but was just looking forward to getting out and wetting a line. By 6.30 we still hadn't a bite and the crabs were stripping the hooks fairly quickly so just decided to use up the lug and see what happens. Jack0 got a decent rattle shortly after which turned out to be a very well conditioned flounder and a pin-whiting, both taken on plain lug. That was it for the evening and as soon as the lug was gone we packed up. Definitely a good bit of recce for the next trip to this mark, lots of gullies and channels so will try it throughout the year and see what might pop up.

I had the same resolution last year, fish down south (anywhere from South of Liffey Down) and then fish a North Dublin mark, brings everything into check, but noticed an old tennis court net in the water (the sand buried it) up by Laytown in the estuary its by the shore deeply buried it just sank my heart.. but still i'll keep tryin North Dublin marks as for the bait robbin dogs ... well we all share that pain!!

Cheers creep. Yeah should keep everything inside the box to avoid the bait robbers. How to avoid the questions is the problem (from people not the dogs!).
There has to be some fish to be had Northside, will try to figure it out anyway.

Best one I had last year was Sparkie, Tightlines and myself nipped off down to Greystones and a fella approached me and asked how we were doing, (kinda of obvious, when were busy taken the rods out of the holdalls!!I thought) anyways he parted company with a bit of advice about keep at it and.... THERE WAS A 6 FOOT Bass caught on that exact spot recently... I paused and asked 6lbs Bass surely.. and he said nope it was SIX FOOT!!
Needless to say.. Tightlines, Sparkie and myself could only do what we could not to crack up laughing in the guys face!!! Tighlines did a conversion putting a 6 foot Bass at: 59531.5 grams or 131 lb 3 oz... we figured a Bass of that size would qualify for a Bus Pass!!

Works best if you have the bait knife in your hand. Look on their face is priceless. Doesn't work on the dogs thou.
