more of the same. Red Bay 15th Jan

Sun Jan 15, 2012 11:09 pm

People: billy no mates

Duration: 2hours+

Tide: high

Weather: a fine day. 6C. little breeze. sunny intervals

Rigs: spinner and fly

Results: nothin too exciting

Report:
the aul boy said "it'd founder ye out there", but i decided to shrug this advice off and hit the coast as i knew it was a fine day that couldnt be passed up.
arrived at a mark that i fished a few weeks ago and where had got a lot of coleys, but this time round there werent as many about. managed 2 on the spinner and 1 on the fly, missed and lost several more.
after an hour or more i cut my losses and headed to the beach nearby to see what was about, hoping for flounder. but after 45mins i realised i had to face the blank here, it was getting dark
think im going to have to put some miles in or try and get out on a boat next time!
was nice to be out all the same. twas a lovely day for it :)
few pics of a few flies i tied below too. was targeting the flounder on these wee sandhopper shrimp-type patterns and also on small boobies.
im still very keen to find a mark that reliably produces decent flounder in close, in the North ??

Lovely pics as usual chuck, like looking through a quality book. I think your best bet IMO would be the Roe Valley at the railway bridge in May/June especially with the abundance of shrimp there and can be very productive for good Flounder on a hot day I find, also maybe pick up a Trout too. If I get a chance tomorrow I might head to a spot for Flounder and if I have any success I will pm you with the details as it would be very suitable for what you are doing.

Well done for getting out with the fly rod this time of year. Nicely tied flies too.

Nice pics again Charlie, I'll have to get back at it myself soon too. More nice fly tying.

Its good to be heading towards spring, daylight and hopefully some good fishing.
