Graystones Harbour Sat 14th

Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:44 pm

People: Me,Myself and I

Duration: 7:30-11

Tide: last hour off the drop and up

Weather: Blowing about 50-60, so it was cold when it shouldn't have been.

Bait: Lug and Sandeels

Rigs: Just a one up one down.

Results: Decided to head out to one off the harbours as I wanted some easy and peaceful fishing. So after checking met E's Website for one final check off the weather, I decided graystones would be great as it was only meant to be 8kph wind and 16kph gusts. Plus i'd never fished it before.

Got down to graystones harbour for about half 7 and got out the car to winds well above 40kph, decided to fish there anyways. Got all my gear on and the rod's out the car. Walked to the end off the wall to find the wind blowing a good 50+. I thought fek it i'm here now and i'm going to give it a shot as its the first time i'd been there. Put the rod bag down with my box and had a look around and over tho side to see what parts wer fishable and which bits wernt.

Within a few seconds off looking round I was thinking this is the worst place ive ever fished. I've never been so disgusted in fishermen in my life. There was atleast 15-20 razor left on the wall half dried out and stuck solid. There was also mackerel heads and body's stuck to the wall. There wer cut up traces and line everywhere, hooks all over the floor and weed everywhere to. After a good 45 mins off cleaning up the s*** the scum had left around where I decided to fish I started to set up. It was just to bad out to set up two rod's so I set a big rod up and decided to cast mid range with a one up one down rig. Which I had my first cast just after half 8. Which after 10 mins off watching my rod get blown by the wind I decided to reel in. To my surprise I had a half decent 5 bearded rockling on and a small amount off weed. This is how my nite went till I decide at ten to 11 I had had enough.

Only really making this report so people who fish there and leave it like that can see people aint to happy. I'm predicting it will be closed to fishermen within another month. Walkers and people with kids who walk there aint going to stand for it, and to be honest they shouldn't have to. It was disgusting and whoever left it like that should get feked over the side with bricks tied to there feet.

Good man yourself for cleaning up, I hate that a few morons give us all a bad name. I also hate when you are fishing and people come up and start on you or you get dirty looks for the mess that others leave behind too, but rather than get angry with them I have to respect that they care enough.

Yeah roger I was getting a fish a cast just about. And if I wernt so peed off after cleaning a spot to fish I would've really enjoyed it. And all the lights are smashed. Its a joke, wether thats kids or not doesn't really matter. Cause the way its left after the fishermen then thats who there going to blame.

There aint any bins on it either, which is just going to be the excuse from the angler's. Which is silly. I wouldn't walk my son down there and if I lived there and did walk there often and seen it like last nite everyday. I'd be first to sign up for it to be closed off for fishing.

Cant believe just a few fishermen could destroy such a beautiful spot, there is potential for that to be a real hotspot for fishing when they open the other side to. But the way its going no1 will get the chance.

Sorry to hear this is happening there  . It's been clean enough any time I was there but as we all know, it only takes a few moron's to tarnish us all  Better bring a bin liner with me next time so  Cheers for the report Mark

Ah f*ck that I sorry we fished it just after it opened up to the public and what a nice place it was. Cant stand that when some so called angler leaves all that crap :x about giving us all a BAD and DIRTY name and it is or could be as Sparkie said a real hot spot to fish from if we are not baned from the pier so come on lads you know who you are CLEAN UP after yourself for f8ck sake... As dave said it could be time to bring a bin liner next time. That has pis*ed me off now

RANT OVER

Fished there this evening.......a few rockling and a pollock,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no rubbish around thankfully   Saw the broken lights,,,,,,,,,,,,I doubt if it was anyone from the fishing fraternity to be honest,,,,,,,and the thin glass fronting on the lights isnt exactly vandalproof  . Most of the walkers on the pier are quite interested in the fishing .

@ Sparkie.... Thanks for posting this up.. its important not only we ALL keep a check on marks like this but vital that we do our best to leave them in the best way we fpound them, fished the Enerielly lower half (brutal winds and fishin) but the amount of fishing related gear that was left there was incredible place looked like a dump wasnt feeling 100% as I should have been in bed as I have the flu. but from here on out the litter stick is coming out with me again!!!
For people reading this that litter, two questions boggle the mind... With mac heads and razors.. is it REALLY that much hard work to dump them over the side of a pier?? Some countries call it ground baiting?!!!, leaving them on a newly built pier will only encourgae bird life to poop everywhere and then the same people will be giving out that the local wildlife are mucking up the place when the get bird poop on their latest jackets!! 2ndly... leaving wasted mono traces and lines .... what type of gobshite does it?? roll it up stick it in your pocket ..theres bins when you come off the pier ..theres bins @ your own homes!! wasted mono is dangerous to wildlife, walkers etc.. its that wastage that will get the publics eye upon us!!!
Mackerel season will only be worse if WE (all anglers here and now) dont act now.. we need to educate ALL fishermen to pick up!! and BIN!
