Duration: 7.30am -> 10.00pm

Tide: High tide approx 8.00am & 8.00pm

Weather: Fairly cold. Cloudy. The odd shower. A little breezy. Fairly calm sea with some big waves.

Bait: Rag, frozen lug, peeler crab, mackerel, frozen mussel, frozen squid.

Rigs: 2 hook flapper

Results: 1 bass (between 4 & 5lb at a guess. Take a look at my album and other guesses at the weight are welcome) approx. 20 dogfish, a couple of tiny whiting and tiny flatfish.


Report: We started out at a spot between Donaghmore and Courtown strand. The bass was caught here on a ledgered crab bait on my first cast about half an hour before high tide. I only cast out about 25 yards. We moved to Cahore point. I was floating sandeel here when my line got caught on an underwater rock. While I was trying to free my line the float (a long pink and white pike float) was making a bubbly disturbance on the water when a big bass took a swipe at it. I quickly changed to a colourful underwater plug but nothing took it. There were some big doggies taken here also. We finished our session on Courtown Strand where we caught loads of doggies, a few tiny flatfish and a couple of small whiting. A good session and a good laugh too.[/img]

That pic doesnt do the Bass any justice at all, what a superb fish!!!! My guess is 5lb of pure power!!! The look on your face was class, and the sight of me and grahamo running down the beach to see would have been a good one, but the BEST sight of all, was watching him swim away like nothing happened!!!!!

it happens when pike fishin too- particularly in blessington!

That's interesting mb.3. So I assume you do some pike fishing then?! By the way, I like all the bass you've been catching. Excellent angling. Keep it up. Perhaps you could teach me a few tricks!?
