Shroove Beach Inishowen 10/12/2012

Sat Dec 10, 2011 9:21 pm

People:Me & a first timer mate

Duration: 3hrs

Tide: 3hr before High to High

Weather: Cold, but dry

Bait: Mack, Sand eel, black lug

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results:

I do believe im starting to get into this shore fishing malarchy  After the recent storms I thought I'd give the beach a blast this afternoon. I decided upon Shroove as there is very little info / reports on this site about it and it looks as fishy as any other of the more popular beaches in Inishowen.
I have to say it fished really well, as detailed above we landed just after 3pm and fished through to 6pm, so we had 2 hours
before dark and one in darkness. First throw I had 2 small coalies around the 20cm mark. Next cast I had a coalie and a flounder, this pattern kept up for the first 2 hours, with a few coalies well over the 30cm mark and the best flounder pictured below was 36cm. All in all it was an enjoyable evening with a steady stream of fish, strange tho that it fished better in Daylight than it did during darkness.

I used to go here when I was a kid and fished it when my mum and sis were sun bathing! I caught plenty of small plaice, they had really bright orange spots though all were prob below 20cm, this was on bright sunny days in the height of summer. I also found quite a few mermaids purses around the rocks, so prob doggies and maybe even rays in the area? Nice sandy bottom so you never know there could be thornies around! Mind you this was going back to the early 90s, so anything is possible now

Cheers guys, to me you cant beat getting out on the boat, but fishing from the shore is slowly winning me over!
Pity we couldn't find anywhere local that would throw a few decent Cod like those lads are getting in the posts from Waterford and Wexford.
