02/03 dec night at Ardmore

Sat Dec 03, 2011 7:43 am

People: Me and my new fishing Buddy

Duration: 10.30pm - 04.30am

Tide: High tide was 10.50 i think

Weather:Calm at the start, very windy about 2am and calmed again by 4

Bait: Mackerelle and squid cocktail and separate

Rigs: 1 hook pulley and wire trace for conger

Results: 2 cods, 4 whiting, 1 coalie and about 25-30 doggies

Report:
Well, i headed first to Green Park where i supposed to meet my buddy, as he had some business to do, took my rods out and gave a try. In first 15 min i got a coalie and in next 15 min a cod. Then he arrived. It was ten to 9 and we made a quick trip to the Super Valu for more mackerelle but without the luck of course, so we headed back to Green Park as my rods were still there, looked after by couple guys, picked them up and headed to Ardmore for bigger fish. Bought even stronger line and hook set for that.
I think we arrived to the scene about 10, unpacked and prepared all the stuff it was nice and calm weather, very little rain, well, couldnt call it even a rain, more like wet fog or something :D
Our aim was to catch conger but the doggies invasion took it over, they kept coming and coming, i think we caught about 30 of them in the whole night and deem no conger... Well, my buddy caught the second cod of the night with mackerel and as he used 2 hook trace, there was a doggie as well hooked at the same time. Then i got a whiting with 8/0 hook, lil hungry b*****d :P
Tide was falling and looks like the doggies went to bed at about 3.30am. Then my buddy got another 2 whitings. The most embarrassing moment was at the end, he nearly got a nice flounder but when lifting her in, he made some too fast movements and she dropped back to the water. The size of it by the look was at least 35cm diameter. I was surprised as he told me its all rocks down there, thought flounders and flatfish like more sandy and flat sea.
Anyways, had a great time, lots of hard work unhooking doggies, (dem too much harm from that hook(8/0) to them), next time i will catch the fish im after :D

The reason we went down there, my buddy said they caught 5 congers there on tuesday night, biggest one was about 7kg/15lb.
I wont give up until i get my first conger, i mean 5kg+ :P

now thats good going and i packed away the conger gear last month it will have to be unpacked again. best conger bait i reckon is the small coalies you can catch them handy on small baits just about 2 yards out

Nice fishing marko.Nice to hit a new mark and get amongst the fish :) No need to be afraid of holding a dogfish they don't bite  Seriously buy yourself a gemini disgorger brillant for unhooking fish like doggies and codling and there will be no need to be standing on fish whilst trying to unhook them, better for the fish and better for your hands and fingers.
Check out Alan Yates on you tube using it to unhook a doggie
Tight lines

Mark you might have better look getting a conger off ballycotton pier, and as for unhooking doggies i got a wall tie you know the things
block layers use when laying blocks, i just cut it to the lenght i wanted it and bendt it at the bottom so that it was like a tbar and its really good for unhooking doggies

An 8/0 hook wont do as much damage as a size 10 foot will do

Well, hard to stand on the fish, unhook it and make pic at the same time. Anyways, noone was standing on them, just to keep the doggie steady. Of course if you know what i mean here.
But i do really see already where you coming from :)
