Report:
Well it had been quite a while since I had done some proper bait fishing on the East coast. I had crossed over into the world of lure fishing for a while but have to say it was good to be back on the bait.......
We started off at a North Wex beach first. Arrived down just after 12 and was quite surprised to see such a big surf as there wasn't much a wind blowing. It was just after high water and we just about had enough 'beach' to setup on. Anyway got setup and had the rods out by 12:30. The water had a real Bassy look about it but after a good 1.5hrs we didn't even get a bite and the bait was being untouched. I had a bad feeling about this spot, so it was time to make an executive decision..........yes ,we would move to a new mark! Now for me this is a first (normally I fish on my own and once I'm setup I'll just fish on till hometime as I'm too lazy to budge and pack everything up) But as we were two we had packed up in no time and were on our way further north up the coast.......
Arrived at new mark, quickly got setup and had the rods back out at 1500hours(as per my prediction!) With a renewed sense of optimism we sat down while I regaled to my brother yarns from the past of all the fish I had previously caught on this beach-twas the stuff of legend and enough to gee up even the most pessimistic of fisherman (I'll say this much, I talk such a good game I even had myself convinced

)
.......rebaited after 15 mins, gentle lob out not too far and sat back down...minutes later my rod tip nodded with that unmistakeable take of a fish. Picked up the rod and felt a fish on, albeit nothing too big. Reeled in and saw the silver just as a wave crashed over the fish, thought I might lose it but turns out he was well hooked! Landed it,took a quick pic of a 35cm schoolie and then put him back into the surf. It wasn't big but if anything it provided us with some welcome hope ! We fished on into darkness so it was Marc's first time night fishing - thought things would pick up but I just managed a tiny dab & whiting while Marc blanked.
As hunger set it, we packed up at 19:00 and made our way home...empty handed again
Have to say it was great to be back out bait fishing and I can't wait to get back out there
with more favourable tides.......
later
Steven
