Well it started off the normal way, bait sourced by the Bait Master …. Tightlines (thanks mate!) and Sparkey+1 coming over to the house loading up the car..Weather was sunny and clear. So feelings were high……UNTIL..Sparkey mentioned my recent runs of blanks YES I blanked off a boat!! So a trip to Arklow was on the cards.. on the way out the banter was great as is the norm now

Arrived out Tightlines didn’t waste anytime…pulled out the gear from the back of the car and RAN down the beach like a man possessed…set out the gear and got busy straightening out lines, meanwhile Sparkey and myself got busy putting the fishin gear on.. strolled down and set up, as I looked over Tightlines was busy haulin in a nice Coalie ..Hmm thoughts of decent fish came flashing to mind but after several retrieves and all the bait stripped I was looking to consol myself with another blank, so we decided to move to the harbour..Once again like an Olympic athlete Tightlines took off down the pier this time followed closely by Sparkey, I decided to stroll down

Tightlines was again into the fish BUT followed by me and Sparkey with a whiting and a dab… YES Blank saved, my catch was whiting, then Dab, Whiting, double shot 5 bearded rockling and whiting, dab, and double shot whiting, But Sparkey did the best with only 6 fish he managed a nice doggie and the dabs, whilst Tightlines and myself were on 14 each all small except a few nice dabs until the last cast double shot of whiting which put me in the lead for once!
Interestingly enough as we were fishin the Harbour wall, we watched a lads throw out a net, to be honest it looked oddly enough like a long tennis court net, (anyone lost a tennis court net lately, its in Arklow Harbour with floats attached) and another fella seemed to be shooting gulls with a low calibre gun though I couldn’t see clearly, everytime a gull went near the edge of the net “BANG” and they’d all fly off again, and this fella who seemed to know them said they were after herring that school around the outside harbour wall,.. now all the time I spent in Arklow I’ve never caught a herring but then again I wasn’t after them so I’d be interested in hear about herring…. (the last time the three of us headed out I was informed of a 6’ bass that was caught recently, (yet again another beach walker) Tightlines estimated the beasts weight which Im sure he’ll inform you of

) I love listening to tales of fishing when I’m fishin..in fact its got me thinking of writing a book

Later the 3 stooges got together and started to haul in this net, and as they did I made sure to shine my head lamp in their direction but couldn’t see any fish, anybody interested in having a look they kicked off around 5pm and finished just before 9pm
