Greystones 19/10/2011

Thu Oct 20, 2011 9:20 am

People:Myself and GarF

Duration:7.30-9.30

Tide:3hrs before low

Weather:Baltic

Bait:Frozen Black lug, Mussel, frozen crab, mac

Rigs:3 hook flappers

Results:1 bass, 1 Tea bag

Went out for a handy enough session for a few hours, didn't care what we caught even if it was pin whiting as it's been 4 months since I've been out on a pleasure session.
We raided the freezer and decided to try Greystones to see what was knocking about. 2 lads were fishing about 100 yards up the beach, they had been there since 15.30 with only a couple of pin whiting to show, so hopes weren't high but we thought with darkness we might winkle out a few fish!
First two casts came back fruitless with baits not beeing touched and a small bit of weed on the traces, but you could still fish comfortably. We were fishing close enough already maybe between 20-50 yards, but I decided to drop it to about 5 yards as sometimes bigger flounder and coalies can be caught here just behind the first wave. We were frozen after an hour and we hadn't had a tap so we decided that if the fishing hadn't picked up in the next half an hour or so then we would just head off, Just as I said that I saw my rod tip bounce nicely, got to it and after a very short fight as the bait was I only a few yards out I had a Bass on the beach of 43cm :)
The lads further up informed us that after they had finished talking to us when we were setting up they had a doggie each and a few small whiting and codling after that. We decided we would give it another while after the Bass and the fact that the lads were starting to pick up a few but after about 40mins of still nothing we decided the fishing wasn't worth the blue fingers, reeled in the last cast and I had a tiny flounder on.
Got back to the car and put the heating on full blast and made the decision not ot lend Gar my neoprene socks again and to buy a new jacket as this one is about 5 years old and loosing it's warmth, and also Gar informed me that it smelled like dead rats

Was a very slow session but it's always good to get out :D

Cheers Paul,

Yeah it was nice to get the Bass but it was still very quiet, probably would have been better if I had fished from LW up but unfortunately I can't control the tides :D

Fingers crossed, it doesn't seem to be as cold as yesterday and the winds have changed from wnw to ssw so you should have a better session than us anyway ;)
