whopper of a pollack

Sun Oct 16, 2011 10:00 pm

People: just me

Duration: 2 hours

Tide: heading out

Weather: fine

Bait: soft plastics and spinner

Report:
went down to see if i could better the wee session i had with cathalger last weekend. was a lot quieter this time round and i think i only landed 4or5 fish. first fish was a nice wee pan-sized codling that i was happy with, i knocked it on the head. it took the soft plastic sand eel shown in the photo. also caught a whopper of a pollack!! :P :P :P - half the size of the lure i was using!!
had to kill a pollack too because it had taken the whole lure in deep. i'll be eating both tomorrow for me dinner.
the best fish of the session was a fine looking pollack of 3lb+ but as i was getting the net ready and just about to land it... it came off

PSML!! what was that little fella thinkin??? even if that lure had a been a real sand eel theres no way he would have been able to swallow it!!! All in all though nice fishin there!! even if the "one" gotta away, it only drives you to try that mark again!! :D I lost something on bait recently and still wondering what it could have been got it to the surf, it swung its head and released to hook which in turn sent a gripper weight flying past my head!! the whole snood was twisted and wrecked, ever notice after losing a fish like that theres always a moment of ..."WHAT THE ..>>" and takes a few seconds to get it back out there!

interesting nicki, cheers. i would never think of targeting cod from the shore using anything other than bait. i might just give the soft plastics a go on the bottom in the next few weeks if i get a chance, hopefully i can get a decent one? have you ever tried live bait??

indeed sully, i reckon he was just comin up for a closer look at the lure, but just got too close.. :P but then again, maybe he did have a nibble, who knows
