People: just me
Duration: 2 hours
Tide: coming in
Weather: fine, calm, perfect
Bait: mack and squid
Rigs: flappers
Results: squat, zero, zilch
finally managed to haul myself off the sofa after a big night out saturday night

got in the car and drove 35miles to the north Antrim coast. put out THREE rods at various distances all baited with small slices of mack or squid. first hour my baits were coming back untouched. second hour my baits were coming back untouched. was planning to fish into dark a bit but as light started to fade, and with zero bites, i thought screw this and headed home.
a bad days fishing, crap. wont rush back to that place
noticed evidence on the beach of somebody who must have been fishing earlier in the day right at the spot where i had chosen too. would be interested to find out how they got on! - couldnt have been any worse than myself..
getting a turbot for the species count has pretty much got me beaten for the year

Surely there's still time for a turbo man?
Hard luck on the session, but always good to get out eh?

Don't give up man! What about heading up to Benone or some of the donegal beaches? A bit of a drive I know but reasonable chance of a turbo.

aye, will think abut it man. long way to go to blank tho.. heard it can be tricky to get one up there too. might just have to aim for another species. not the end of the world.

if your hell bent on a turbo, try small sections of sandeels or razor - 2-3cm
if the slivers of mack or squid arent working
youll get one it might be 12cm long, but it will be a turbo - more daylight feeders aswell
good luck

White Park Bay...beautiful spot but never had any joy there myself. Strong currents make it quite tricky and I've had tripod pulled over several times because of it. I've heard of guys catching turbot from it but not sure what size.
Hard luck anyway mate but as Fagan says...that's fishin :-p

hard luck charlie

. like some of the other lads already said, that spot can be a feast or a famine sort of mark. we've had some great sessions on it and some absolute howllers with not a single fish being caught between 8 rods over 11 hours

. added to that the 1 mile walk back up the beach and the hill/mountain to the car park feels a lot longer after blanking

. but just a word of warning thow. we went up there to fish a session about 3 weekends ago and gave it a miss. there was car window glass shattered at 3 different spots in the car park on what would have been both sides of the motors where they were parked. and seeing as the people in the hostel don't allow anglers to park in their car park any more we just gave it a miss and went on to another mark instead. i really did'nt like the idea of the car being left up there overnight for an evening into dawn session espically as it was at the weekend

thanks for that Al. aye, i wouldnt be too keen to leave a car there too late into dark anyway to be honest. so far from the beach and in that wee dark car park.. it just takes a few guys out and about and bored up around that area.... nah. i can imagine it happening no bother.
but yes, thanks for the warning, even though i dont think i'll be back there to be honest!

i heard a loud bang there one night, sounded like a car crash, took to me feet thinking someone had done somethin to my motor (i'd parked at the barrier) didnt see anyone or any damage to my car but saw alot of "diff" marks and a bent post so i assumed some chap mashed his own car.
does anyone know how their insurance would cover the likes of damage while fishing certain areas??

If you don't have a witness or catch the person who brakes in or crashes into you it's bye bye no claims bonus as you will need to claim off your own insurance like you had crashed it yourself

sadly dave, if you did'nt catch them in the act and get a reg you'd have to claim off your own insurance to repair the damage these scumbags would cause to your motor. but to be honest with the way insurance prices are going it would likely cost less to fork out the cash for a smashed window so as not to loose your no claims bonus
